The option of modified active region was introduced by a request of one customer who kept the actual design strictly confidential. So I can just say that with this option user may modify the active region characteristics for some selected area. To activate the option, one need use the respective checkbox in the project configuration window, specify the area of modified active region in Layers tab, and specify modified characteristics in the Active region tab (one can switch between the active region characteristics fro the main area and modified area with a radio group in the top left part of the tab).
